Women in Surgery
Celebrating women surgeons in Uganda
Women in Uganda are represented in all branches of surgery and at all career stages underscoring the fact that women do compete favorably with men to achieve a great education, work hard and conduct extensive research to become pioneers in surgery and other fields of science.
WiSA Magazine 2026
This March, we celebrate the courage, determination, and extraordinary contributions
of women in surgery across Uganda and the African continent.
Although women now make up a growing proportion of the medical workforce, they remain significantly under-represented in surgical specialties. In our region, women constitute only a small proportion of practicing surgeons. Yet every year, more women step forward—choosing the demanding but profoundly rewarding path of surgery. These women are pioneers.
