Dr. Kakungulu Edward

Biography

Dr. Edward Kakungulu is a General Surgeon at the Uganda Cancer Institute / East Africa Oncology Centre of Excellence.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Gulu University in Uganda and a Master of Medicine in Surgery from Makerere University. He has also been admitted to Harvard Medical School, Blavatnik Institute of Global Health and Social Medicine for a Master of Medical Science in Global Health Delivery.

He has trained in Clinical epidemiology from the University of California San Francisco; Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management, Leadership and Management in Health, and Implementation Science from the University of Washington, Department of Global Health.

He is the first recipient of the Doug Altman Scholarship of the University of Oxford and also a 2017 Clinical Fellow of the Lee Jong Wook Fellowship Program, trained at the National Cancer Institute in South Korea.

He served on the Young Professional Commission of the Lancet on the Education of Health Professionals for the 21st Century.

He is also engaged in research on use of mHealth and other digital health solutions to improve access to healthcare for people living in rural areas.
